How to Meet New People This Winter? Consider the Airport!

November 27, 2013/in Date Stats /by Guest Blogger

Wondering how to meet new people this holiday season? According to research firm StrategyOne, almost one out of every ten adults has either dated or known someone to have dated a person they met at an airport or during a flight. So Axe spray — the industry leader in satisfying a need no one really thought needed to be satisfied — commissioned a study in 2007 with Sperling’s BestPlaces to rank America’s biggest airports by likeliness to produce a romantic connection. Their metrics include variables such as length of layovers and delays (which promote interaction, obviously) and cute shops and places to interact (beer gardens and magic shops). Basically, they came up with a formula to determine the likelihood of you meeting new people during a layover.

The best airport? Philadelphia. Yep. Apparently. Below are their full rankings. Let us know if this squares with your own experiences.

Boston: Short Day Trip Date to Newport

August 3, 2012/in Boston, Date Ideas /by CMB

Founded in 1630 by wayward Puritan colonists from England, Boston is one of the oldest cities in America.  So it’s had a lot of time to establish itself as a world-class city and New England’s epicenter of gastronomy – in other words: plenty of date options.

However, what do you do when you run out of date ideas?  Fact is, our Boston members are comprised of refined tastemakers who are “in the know.”  They are fully aware that the Tip Tap Room has nothing to do with tap dancing.  They do not consider chillin’ with colonially-clad women at Paul Revere’s crib as conducive to romantic dates. They are busy professionals who are tired of waiting in line to get to the roofdeck of Legal Harborside (btw, ask for the Boston Strong Boy or The Purple Jesus if you are patient enough to wait – they’re life changing).

So back to the question: what do you do?

Here is the first installment of date inspirations for day trips to get you away from the city but close enough to have you back home in time for Olympics Women’s Trampoline.

Where: Newport, RI (Goat Island)

Distance: 71 miles, 1 hour 19 minutes

Accommodations (if necessary): Hyatt Regency Newport on Goat Island – unfortunately no goats (we looked…seriously)

Eats: order a draft Newport Storm to wash down the $1 Oysters at Celtica Public House.  Also, it’s totally worth spending the night just for the crab benedict breakfast from Black Pearl’s waterside patio.

Must See: (1) visit a local vineyard (2) pull $ from your own Mansion Fund to tour the Famous Newport Mansions (3) absolutely skip (1) & (2) if you can’t make it back to Goat Island before sunset.  It’s not worth running the risk of missing the most romantic moment of the trip…watching the sunset over Narragansett Bay. It’s truly breathtaking. @coffeembagel Instagram pics below:

CMB Tip: View the sunset from Pineapples on the Bay, but if the one-man-band’s covers of 90’s alternative classics become too intense, take a short stroll over to the historical Newport Harbor Lighthouse.
