New to NYC? 6 secrets to get you into the Empire State of Mind

June 3, 2013/in Funny & Videos /by Guest Blogger

The following article is a guest post, courtesy of Catherine Nguyen

Hey recent college grads,
Stressed about moving to a new city? We got you covered! We’re going to be launching a series of blog posts over the next week on how to get plugged into your new city and enjoy all the hidden gems it has to offer. Our posts will cover the major cities  that Coffee Meets Bagel is also in – NYC, Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, LA, and SF.
We’re starting off with the first city we launched in – the Big Apple. While it sounds, well, big and intimidating, these 6 local websites can help you get adjusted and channel your inner Jay-Z.
Hail down a cab with Hailo Cab
The name tells all – this mobile app lets you hail a cab from wherever you are in New York so you don’t need to do the awkward arm-wave-flag-down for a cab. Best of all, if you don’t have a credit card or cash on you, Hailo Cab stores your credit card information so once you hop out of the cab, you’re charged and emailed a receipt.

Easter Weekend for Grownups

April 5, 2012/in Date Ideas /by CMB

Easter is the day to celebrate Jesus Christ’s resurrection-right? BUT as all holidays the meaning of it got watered down to easter eggs, bunnies, bunny-shaped chocolates, egg hunts for kids and a day off for adults.

Either way, Good Friday is about to be a GREAT Friday with the rest of the weekend. So after Good Friday Service for church-goers, here are some events you should check out.

Easter Egg Decorating Party

Who didn’t like arts and crafts back in the days with all the glitter, glue sticks and construction paper? Let’s bring it all back but make it better…it’s beer-and crafts for the grownups.

Gather up your friends and get into Easter’s tradition of egg dyeing and decorating but punch it up with some booze. Village Pourhouse- an ultimate pub is having an Easter party with an open bar with some good old beer and cocktails. See who’s the next artist and see how your easter eggs slowly demolishes after one beer after another.

WHERE: Village Pourhouse (64 3rd Ave at 11th St.)

WHEN: TONIGHT @ 7pm

PRICE: $45

Wear Spring head to toe

This is probably more of a warning for most New Yorkers. Easter Sunday means…Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival on good old Fifth Avenue. 49th to 57th street is going to be closed to traffic but unlike other parades, Easter Parade is much less organized and is more of a closed off area where paraders show off and check out each other’s bonnet. Definitely more of a tourist event but if you’re in the area, just be aware ;)

WHEN: Easter Sunday April 8th. 10am-4pm

WHERE: 5th Ave from 49th-57th St

The Hottest Rides

Be the first to see the hottest cars that aren’t even on the streets yet. You don’t have to be a car fanatic to enjoy this annual auto convention. The New York International Auto Show will be open to public this weekend and you can see 2013 models, concept cars, green technology and classic cars in a separate gallery. Now only if we can take one of them home… By the way, a “flying car” seems to be the star of this convention this year.

WHERE: Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (655 W. 34th St.)

WHEN: April 6-15
