All in all, this city is a love story waiting to happen. What better place for some of the most brilliant, successful, and seriously good-looking singles to fall in love than New York?
Here’s a taste of some of the most interesting, intelligent, and fun individuals in this city that never sleeps. Flip through and meet 5 of your fellow CMB New Yorkers as they reveal their hidden talents, best date stories, and more! [URIS id=12876]

8 Things Penny Dreadful Can Teach Us About Romance

June 30, 2014/in Date Tips /by Guest Blogger

The season finale of Penny Dreadful was just last night. As I lament over the end of Season 1, and look forward to season 2, I can’t help but to think about how some of the romantic elements in the show can apply to dating in real life.
So Penny Dreadful isn’t really romantic, with all the violence and horror, but there are a lot of titillating scenes and romantic subplots that can teach us a thing or two about spicing up our love lives.
1) Walks in arboretums can be quite flirtatious.

2) Surprise your date with a really good date.
Brona had never been to the theater before, so just look at how elated she is when Ethan surprises her by taking her one night! Bonus: he buys her an orange.

3) Play music to set the mood when you’re together.

4) Sexy Boudoir photoshoots can really spice things up.

5) Sincere compliments are ALWAYS appreciated.

7) Asking for consent is always appreciated.
If a spoiled, manipulative, and immortal brat like Dorian can ask for consent, so can everyone else.

8) But above all, be there for each other as confidantes and trusted loved ones.

Rainy Day Date Ideas

Rainy Day Date Ideas

April 4, 2014/in Date Ideas /by CMB

Need date ideas for a rainy day? Don’t let April showers get you down!
Check out these 5 date ideas that’ll have you singing in the rain:
1. Explore an indoor market
You won’t miss the great outdoors as you wander the maze of food vendors and local shops. Sample exotic foods, grab a cold one, and enjoy people-watching.
We love getting lost in these notable marketplaces:
Boston – Faneuil Hall Marketplace
New York – Chelsea Market
Philadelphia – Reading Terminal Market
San Francisco – Ferry Building Marketplace
Seattle – Pike Place Market
2. Head to the classroom
Whether you’re interested in knitting hats for cats or at-home beer brewing, there’s a class for that. Impress your date with your newfound skills and maybe pick up a new hobby to enjoy together!
Time Out has a great listing of classes by city.
3. Get cooking
Get in touch with your inner top chef. After all, they say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. If you don’t know where to start, use All Recipe’s “Cooking for Two” collection for the perfect meal.
And, don’t forget to pop open a bottle of vino to compliment your culinary creation.
4. Play games
A little friendly competition will get your adrenaline pumping and guarantee a playful day indoors. For the bold, Cards Against Humanity can be a great way to get a peek into your date’s sense of humor. Stick to the classics like Apples to Apples, Scrabble, or these board games to keep it G-rated.
Keep it flirty and don’t be afraid to invent your own rules! Twister, anyone?
5. Tour a local brewery or winery
Find a local waterhole that offers a behind-the-scenes tour. After imbibing on free samples, head to lunch or grab food at the bar to keep the date going. Can’t find a tour nearby? Stock up on drinks and snacks for a boozy indoor picnic.

Get Creative with your Dates in Chicago with 3 Unique Date Ideas

July 12, 2013/in Chicago /by Guest Blogger

The following article is a guest post, courtesy of Catherine Nguyen

Feeling nostalgic for the past? Chicago Bagels, we got your back with 3 unique date ideas to fulfill your #tbt cravings! For LA, SF, Boston, DC, and NYC, check out our posts dedicated to your local city.

Cuddle in the Car to a Drive-in Movie
Better clean up your car and recline those seats back! Take your date to Cascade’s Drive-In, a popular hot spot for new releases. Best of all, they’re open 7 nights a week for you movie junkies.
unique date ideas

Hit up a Bowling Alley
Bowling is one of those great sports you can be good at without having to be in shape. But you still gotta buckle up those (ugly, we know) shoes and get ready to impress your date, Bagels, because competition can get tough at the Pinstripes bowling alley. Fortunately they got live blues & jazz, Italian cuisine, and wine to help quench the potentially sub-par performance for a guaranteed good time.
unique date ideas

Share a Chocolate Malt (and fries and a burger, or two…)

Nothing beats burgers, fries & shakes from 25 Degrees Restauraunt. Though not an actual diner, their food is just as high-quality as one from back in the days. If you’re up for it, they also have fantastic mimosas, martinis & other cocktails for you to get your drink on. Check em out!

Concerts in Central Park
You can do more than just grab coffee (and a bagel!) while on your stroll through Central Park. Every summer, the City Parks Foundation puts on a SummerStage festival. Dating like its the 90’s: Creative Date Ideas in SF

July 9, 2013/in SF /by Guest Blogger

The following article is a guest post, courtesy of Catherine Nguyen

Remember in the old days when your date would come to your house, meet your parents, and then you two would be off on your merry way? Well we’re looking to bring that back with Throwback Week, bringing to you creative date ideas that are always a classic and timeless go-to (except for the meeting-the-parents part). We’ve already kicked it off with LA, and today we’ll be focusing on SF.

Dine with Lori’s Diner
When did diner dates ever go out of fashion? Actually, never! We’re all for the old-fashioned joints that have maintained their classic look, and that’s what you’ll find at Lori’s Diner. Located in the heart of Union Square, Lori’s Diner is exactly what you imagine a diner to  look like – red booths, Chocolate malts, french fries, juke boxes, and root beer floats. You may even get pinned!

Wash it Down with Bi-Rite Creamery
Nothing tastes better after a tasty meal with some ice cream, and no one makes it better than Bi-Rite Creamery in the Mission District. They serve all of your favorite ice cream combinations, from sundaes, sandwiches, and soft serve, in the traditional flavors but with a special twist. Chocolate and vanilla are on the menu, but so are strawberry basil and honey lavendar – yum!

Pro Tip: Split a sundae with your bagel or lick off each others cones – either way, Bi-Rite’s Creamery is a surefire way to have a sweet time.

Watch Classic Films in Castro Theatre
In the mood for some classic films, like The Night of the Hunter, the original Exorcist, and modern ones like the Great Gatsby? Check out Castro Theatre on Castro Street, where the theatre is well preserved to provide an old time feel – 70mm capabilities on the screen,  1,200 seats with a balcony, a wurlitzer & classic wurlitzer guy, and preserved frescos on the interior.
