We're All Stalkers, Let's Just Admit It

November 13, 2014/in Date Stats, Date Tips, Funny & Videos /by Guest Blogger

It’s something that literally everyone who has a Facebook has been guilty of at some point — and it’s totally okay! This social phenomenon of Facebook stalking has interested me for several years now, to the point that I studied it in college. What I found was that the social acceptability of admitting that you’ve “stalked” someone is completely dependent on your offline relationship with them. It’s not at all weird to tell your best friend that you saw her pictures from a couple weeks ago, but it’s super weird  to tell an ex, or even just an acquaintance, that you know what they did last weekend. What would it be like to live in a world where this wasn’t strange behavior anymore? I mean, people post things on their profiles for other people to see, right? Isn’t that the point?

Want To Warm Things Up On Your Next Date?

August 1, 2012/in Date Tips, Uncategorized /by CMB

Scenario:

It’s noon…ever so meticulously you turn your computer screen away from your boss’s line of sight…anticipation builds as you click to open up your Match for the day…it’s a total no-brainer, the person staring back at you is as beautiful/handsome as:

…their profile is written like a haiku custom crafted for you…you confidently click “Like” with conviction flowing through your pointer finger…

Your Bagel apparently has similar great tastes and the next thing you know the SMS texts are increasing in frequency…you find yourself smiling and giggling at that 2×4 smartphone screen- unaware of the quizzical stare from a passerby…then BAM!  You are faced with the age-old dilemma: coffee, drinks or dinner?

There is scientific evidence that a date over iced hot coffee may really “warm” things up.  According to Dr. Amy Muise, a social psychologist who studies sexuality and relationships, “if you want to be perceived as warm and friendly on your next date, bring your date a hot cup of coffee or encourage him or her to order the soup.”

Who knew that a person’s physical warmth could influence their perceptions of another person’s psychological warmth?

STUDY: Saying ‘No’ to Junk Food is Difficult When You’re Sleep-Deprived

June 11, 2012/in Date Tips, Uncategorized /by CMB

Are you a fast food junkie? Perhaps you’re an investment banker who has minimal sleep and is surrounded by – and constantly eating – unhealthy food. Well, when you have those $30/night dinner credits, it’s hard to refrain from ordering a bunch of desserts in addition to your meal. But, is it really the meal budget or your sleep deprivation that’s causing you to munch on junk food?

New research from UC Berkeley suggests that unhealthy food is more appealing to those who are tired. Sleep deprivation causes significantly impaired activity in the area in the frontal lobe of the brain that helps control behavior and make complex choices, which includes making healthier food choices. Read this article from the Atlantic to find out more about this interesting study!

Will marriage make you happier?

June 6, 2012/in CMB Says, Uncategorized /by CMB

Hey all! Do you guys remember this funny pic we posted on our FB page? This might have scared some of our bachelors away :(

But guess what matrimony REALLY does to you? It makes you happier in the long run than you would have been if you didn’t tie the knot.

According to this article from HuffPost, marriage protects you from “normal decline in happiness” that most of us experience during adulthood.

To all our members: Don’t worry about being single at the moment. We are here to take you a step closer to finding the one. :)

The graph below sums up this cool research:

(*btw, numbers here aren’t accurate; the graph is used here to simply depict the study’s findings)

Middleton of Silicon Valley: What do Kate and Priscilla share in common?

May 30, 2012/in CMB Says, Uncategorized /by CMB

America had its own Middleton this month: Priscilla Chan, who married Prince of Silicon Valley, Mark Zuckerberg. While some detractors claim that Kate and Priscilla are “extremely normal girls,” we love ‘em for that reason and wanted to dedicate an article for the two starlets.

True, “Duchess of Cambridge” and “Duchess of the Social Networking World” may be from “common” backgrounds. Yet, they are both charming, glamorous, and super well-educated. We think the two down-to-earth women are the perfect “first ladies.”

Check out the table below to find out what they have in common! ;)

Why can't they stop talking about themselves?

May 23, 2012/in Date Tips, Uncategorized /by CMB

You go on a first date. He/she starts talking…

Date #1: Hi, my name is Bagel. Oh, I see you went to business school? You know, when I was in b-school, I went on this amazing trip to Italy with my classmates….It was so nice that I seriously considered staying behind and working as a waiter at a local restaurant…. but then I realized that my family depends on me ….. and so, I decided to get back on track…… me, me, me, me, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME!

Sounds familiar? Such narcissistic behavior is a big turn-off, right?

Yet, this article from TIME reveals that your bagel can’t help him/herself. In an experiment with an fMRI scan, researchers found that sharing personal information led to activity in the reward areas of the brain — the same ones that are engaged in response to rewards like sex and food.

So next time, you run into such bagel, give that “Mr./Ms. Me” a second chance. He or she might just be nervous and in need of feeling good.

All you need is a sip of Coffee Meets Bagel

May 21, 2012/in CMB Says, Uncategorized /by CMB

Nothing frustrates us more than hearing an online dating horror story like this.

1. You join an online dating site, hoping it will help you meet many great men at your ease & convenience

2. You take your dear time to contact 344 men, using all the excel skill you learned in college & color-coding strategy to organize the information

3. After all this work, 90% refuses to talk to you

4. Of the 34 people who did respond, you end up meeting only 17% of them

5. 0% turns into relationship. Bunch turns out to be creeps.

No wonder people are afraid of online dating! Who has time for this crap?

This is exactly the problem we are trying to address.

Having the same problem? All you need is a sip of Coffee Meets Bagel.

Some Facts of Online Dating

March 29, 2012/in CMB Says, Date Tips /by CMB

Sorry about this HUGE photo but keep on reading!

The word “online dating” can stir up very different responses. It is a booming business, yet some are still afraid to admit they are online dating and some are afraid to even start because of horror stories.

I thought these facts were interesting and relevant for all of us. (Seeing how both women and men say they slightly thinner or taller than they actually are made me chuckle a little to myself.)

Coffee Meets Bagel pride ourselves in being an online social gaming site where we introduce and make matches online but by bringing in the “introduced through a friend or family member”. This really differentiates us from other online dating sites and we hope our members are having a different experience.
