7 Creepy Things Guys Have Told Me on First Dates #ThisHappened

June 4, 2014/in Date Tips, For Him /by Guest Blogger

It’s one thing to get creepy messages from guys online, but in real life? And on the first date? Gentlemen, there is a time and place for salacious sayings, but not when we’ve just met, because as opposed to friend-zoning you, we ladies are going to creep-zone you.
For those of you endowed with the Y chromosome, please take heed of my tip and avoid saying anything as remotely unwelcoming as these sampling of creeptastic statements I’ve received upon first meetings.

1) “I’ve been to the red-light district in San Francisco.”
Harry Potter I really don't care
Less than ten minutes later, after we stepped out of the boba shop, he asked me where I was headed off to.
I responded with a question: “Which way are YOU heading?”
He pointed East.
I pointed West.
We shook hands and made no attempt to ever get in contact ever again.

2) “When I went to Amsterdam for a conference with my professor and fellow Master’s candidates, I figured this was the only time in my life I’d be single while in Amsterdam, so I went to go to the red-light district and got a blow job.”
Ariel grossed out
What is up with me running into another guy who went to a red light district? And the bonus to this date? When the campus bell tower rang nine times (for context, we were both on the UC Berkeley campus, and it was nighttime), he told me, “Well, I gotta get back home and finish my presentation for tomorrow!” He hugged me good-bye before running off. Really? He didn’t feel the need to walk me home to make sure I didn’t get killed on the way?

3) “Have you ever thought of being a camgirl?”
Hermione stabbing you
Is that your way of trying to compliment me by telling me I’m so sexy, I should show off my goods on the internet? If so, you failed to flatter me.

4) “I’ve never been with an Asian girl before!”
Lucy Liu
NO, I am not a sampling platter of exotic Oriental fares. Get away from me.

5) “I kinda got erect hugging you!”
Katy Perry shoo
Did I really need to know that?

6) “What do you think of rape play?”
What the Hell!!
Wait, we just met, and you’re bringing up this topic?

7) “Making out is for kids, oral is for adults.”
Asian girl I will destroy you
The gif above is pretty self-explanatory.

Ladies, do you have any creeptastic things guys have told you that you would like to share?  Gentlemen, have YOU had any unforward comments made by girls?

California Singles! Let's Compare Dating in San Francisco vs. Los Angeles

June 3, 2014/in LA, SF /by CMB

On the west coast, there’s the classic rivalry of NorCal versus SoCal. So, how does dating stack up between the two great cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles?

1. Where you met:

SF: You were introduced at a house party. Or online, through one of the many dating apps everyone seems to be on.
LA: At the Equinox while snapping a #gymselfie or as you were both picking up your puppies from doggy daycare.

2. Your first date:

SF: Overpriced coffee at an artisanal, organic coffee shop in the Mission.
LA: Overpriced cocktails at a trendy restaurant in Venice.

3. He showed up:

SF: At 6:15pm, wearing a North Face jacket and sneakers. He was 15 minutes late because his shuttle bus was attacked by protestors.
LA: 30 minutes late because of bumper-to-bumper traffic on the 405.

4. She showed up:

SF: Wearing jeans and a t-shirt, carrying a yoga mat.
LA: Wearing a skin-tight Herve Leger dress and heels, yoga mat optional.

5. During the date, he says:

SF: “I’m just killing it at my start-up. I hella want to retire by 35, especially if my investments in Bitcoin go well. Do you want another craft beer?”
LA: “I’m working on a screenplay, but I’ve been busy with my improv group and personal trainer. Is this dish gluten-free?”

6. During the date, she says:

SF: “I just got my Google glass and love them. Can’t wait to go wine tasting in Napa this weekend.”
LA: “I have a yoga retreat in Palm Springs next weekend where we’re doing a group juice cleanse.”

7. After the date:

SF: You compete to see who can get an Uber or Lyft on their phone quicker. You split fare on the app.
LA: You make sure to check out what kind of car he/she drives. Then you drive away in opposite directions.

8. Second date:

SF: Walking around the farmers market, picking up locally grown strawberries. Or dinner eating organic kale and quinoa salad at The Plant.
LA: Pretend to be outdoorsy for a day. Put on a pair of $100 lululemons and “hike” Runyon Canyon.

9. Form of communication:

SF: Snapchat. Any evidence of your flirty exchanges will self-destruct in 10 seconds.
LA: Instagram. Everyone wants more followers. #nofilter

10. Long-term dating potential:

SF: Greater than 50%. People always need a +1 to bike across the Golden Gate Bridge with.
LA: Depends on how far you live from each other. If he/she lives across the city, it’s basically long-distance.

CMB Men's Series: How to Score a 2nd Date

October 11, 2012/in For Him /by CMB

CMB Men’s Series is original content dedicated to (confused) men and dating in the city.
Guys typically know within 30 seconds of meeting a girl whether she is compatible and has long term potential. However, just because it’s easy for us to recognize potential, it doesn’t mean that it’s easy to convince the date that we’re worth their time.
Here are 4 essential steps to take on a first date that will help you land a 2nd.
1. Plan the Proper First Date
Choose somewhere you are familiar with, a place where you may know the owners or the best dishes to order. The goal of the first date is to get to know each other, so let her see you in your most comfortable environment.
Less is more!  No need for pre-dinner drinks, dinner, post-dinner drinks, Broadway Show..etc. She’s not getting  a realistic perception of you if you put on a production.  And guess what? If you continue to see each other, she will continue to keep expectations high.
Keep it simple.  82% of women polled in CMB’s survey said that they typically go to a coffee shop or bar on a first date. Dating on a budget in NYC? Click here for our hand picked pocket friendly date ideas that will still impress your lady.
Keep a 3 hour time limit. The success of a date doesn’t depend on duration. Having a time pressure will motivate you to get to know your date within that time period, and may leave her wanting more.
Video courtesy of Ms. Singlefied. Visit her at singlefied.com or @singlefiedyue.
2. Ask Her Questions
Obvious fact of the day: women like to talk.  Studies have shown that women communicate more verbally then men.  So naturally it’s easy to let the conversation become one-sided, but don’t let it turn into an interrogation where she’s peppering you with questions.  Take the lead and engage her with questions that show your genuine interest in who she is, where she comes from, and what her values are.
3. Pick Up the Tab

Splitting the bill, or going ‘Dutch’, might make sense to some.  You hardly know each other, the economy stinks, and she has a job. But sorry guys, if you don’t make an effort to pick up the tab, there may not be a 2nd date. Want proof?
CMB’s survey showed that 87%! of women either feel they should never pay on a first date or secretly hope the guy would pay the full bill. Chivalry, and more importantly the expectation of chivalry, is very much still alive.
4. Forget the 2 day/ 3 day/ 1 week rules

There are numerous rules that guys follow for when to contact the girl after the first date. We’ve heard anywhere from 2 days to a week.  However, CMB’s survey showed that most women would touch base the day after the date if it went well (assuming they would initiate). Therefore, you will not come across as a lonely desperate stalker if you contact her the following day.  Keep in mind that 1 out of 3 women said they would never follow up with a date after the first date. Moral of the story – if you want to see her again, don’t wait until Christmas to tell her.

Women's hunch

January 19, 2012/in CMB Says, Date Stats /by CMB

Hunch, intuition, gut-feeling, voice whispering in your ears—whatever you may call it, I have experienced, repeatedly, many instances when my first intuition proved to be right.
In this interesting study conducted by Psychologist and Villanova University Associate Professor Rebecca J. Brand, women could intuitively evaluate men’s physical attractiveness from their written online profiles. Without photos, they were asked to evaluate men’s attractiveness from their writing. The result—the women actually didn’t need photos to to discern which ones are attractive.
This Huffington Post article does not include the details of how these women evaluated men’s attractiveness and how much it correlated with the actual attractiveness of the photos. The interpretation is that women are generally attracted to confident men, and the confidence level is reflected in men’s writing. And because our looks/attractiveness impact our confidence level, the more confident you are, the likely that you are attractive.
I find it fascinating that even in such short online profiles, such deeply personal traits can be analyzed. More interesting question would be whether this would apply if done among men. I don’t think for women, being attractive necessarily translates to confidence. In fact, a lot of attractive women I know are insecure. Also, I am not sure if men will be able to pick up on these subtle cues. It would be an interesting study.
