Paintnite; first date idea; couple; creative painting

Looking for a creative date idea to impress your date? Check out PaintNite – a brand new painting adventure that takes art, wine, and dating to a Van Gogh level. Set in local bistros and bars in major cities throughout the U.S., PaintNite sets the stage for you and your bagel to enjoy a drink while discovering your artistic talents.

Let your inhibitions fade as you sip cocktails, brush strokes of paint across your canvas, and enjoy a spirited evening of fun. Taking yourself too seriously is left at the door as you playfully release your inner artiste. Professional artists select a painting for the evening and carefully guide you through the steps of creating your own beautiful tableau. All supplies – paints, brushes, canvas, and a smock – are provided.

PaintNite couple; colorful cocktail; looking for love; first date

PaintNite events occur often and the venues, paintings, and artists change frequently. All the details can be conveniently found on their website and tickets can be purchased online as well. Choose a painting that inspires you and bring your bagel along for this great first date idea. With a paintbrush in one hand and a cocktail in the other, you are primed for success.

Pro tip: Read up on the three pairs of complementary colors. It’ll take about two minutes tops and you’ll be sure to secretly impress your date.

July 12, 2013/in Chicago /by Guest Blogger

The following article is a guest post, courtesy of Catherine Nguyen

Feeling nostalgic for the past? Chicago Bagels, we got your back with 3 unique date ideas to fulfill your #tbt cravings! For LA, SF, Boston, DC, and NYC, check out our posts dedicated to your local city.

Cuddle in the Car to a Drive-in Movie
Better clean up your car and recline those seats back! Take your date to Cascade’s Drive-In, a popular hot spot for new releases. Best of all, they’re open 7 nights a week for you movie junkies.

Hit up a Bowling Alley
Bowling is one of those great sports you can be good at without having to be in shape. But you still gotta buckle up those (ugly, we know) shoes and get ready to impress your date, Bagels, because competition can get tough at the Pinstripes bowling alley. Fortunately they got live blues & jazz, Italian cuisine, and wine to help quench the potentially sub-par performance for a guaranteed good time.

Share a Chocolate Malt (and fries and a burger, or two…)

Nothing beats burgers, fries & shakes from 25 Degrees Restauraunt. Though not an actual diner, their food is just as high-quality as one from back in the days. If you’re up for it, they also have fantastic mimosas, martinis & other cocktails for you to get your drink on. Check em out!

Dating like its the 90’s: Creative Date Ideas in SF

July 9, 2013/in SF /by Guest Blogger

The following article is a guest post, courtesy of Catherine Nguyen

Remember in the old days when your date would come to your house, meet your parents, and then you two would be off on your merry way? Well we’re looking to bring that back with Throwback Week, bringing to you creative date ideas that are always a classic and timeless go-to (except for the meeting-the-parents part). We’ve already kicked it off with LA, and today we’ll be focusing on SF.

Dine with Lori’s Diner
When did diner dates ever go out of fashion? Actually, never! We’re all for the old-fashioned joints that have maintained their classic look, and that’s what you’ll find at Lori’s Diner. Located in the heart of Union Square, Lori’s Diner is exactly what you imagine a diner to  look like – red booths, Chocolate malts, french fries, juke boxes, and root beer floats. You may even get pinned!

Wash it Down with Bi-Rite Creamery
Nothing tastes better after a tasty meal with some ice cream, and no one makes it better than Bi-Rite Creamery in the Mission District. They serve all of your favorite ice cream combinations, from sundaes, sandwiches, and soft serve, in the traditional flavors but with a special twist. Chocolate and vanilla are on the menu, but so are strawberry basil and honey lavendar – yum!

Pro Tip: Split a sundae with your bagel or lick off each others cones – either way, Bi-Rite’s Creamery is a surefire way to have a sweet time.

Watch Classic Films in Castro Theatre
In the mood for some classic films, like The Night of the Hunter, the original Exorcist, and modern ones like the Great Gatsby? Check out Castro Theatre on Castro Street, where the theatre is well preserved to provide an old time feel – 70mm capabilities on the screen,  1,200 seats with a balcony, a wurlitzer & classic wurlitzer guy, and preserved frescos on the interior.

3 Ways to Escape the Fog- Outdoor Date Ideas SF

June 24, 2013/in Date Ideas, SF /by Guest Blogger

It’s now been summer for three days in San Francisco, which anyone will tell you is one of the coldest winters a body could suffer. Many would misquote that timeless Mark Twain witticism that no Bay Area local can walk ten feet without hearing (though unfortunately, he never actually said it), but rather than start off this Monday on an obnoxious note, I’d rather present you with three outdoor date ideas to help you escape the fog and experience some real California sun this summer.

Sausalito

1. Sausalito
Believe it or not, directly across the bridge the fog completely dissipates and leaves you standing overdressed in a sunny seaside village called Sausalito. This is a place for the foodie in you, as many of the restaurants and bars are infamous for their stellar culinary exploits. For some outdoor chillage with great wine and even better food, pick Bar Bocce, whose outdoor patio lets your pasty self absorb all of the vitamin D you can handle whilst sipping excellent cocktails and playing some backyard bocce ball.

Muir Woods

2. West Marin
For those of you looking to have a woodland adventure, look no further than West Marin. The region, extending from the sleepy surf town of Fairfax all the way out to Point Reyes and Tamales Bay has some of the most unspoiled natural wonders that Northern California is famous for, from the redwood cathedrals of Samuel P. Taylor park, to the sapphire beaches that are Stinson and Bolinas. If you’ve got a weekend empty of plans, go rent a campsite out at Wildcat Camp at Point Reyes National Seashore— you might be the only ones out there, and the trails and coastline are something that every Bay Area local should see.

3. Berkeley
Another area generally devoid of San Francisco’s wet-coldness in the summertime, Berkeley is an excellent choice when picking a sunny destination with a home-y feel. It has a little something for everyone, boasting a fun and vibrant downtown area and at the same time catering to the outdoors with some of the best rock climbing and outdoor destinations around. My pick is Tilden Lake, where you can go have a barbecue and swim in the sun, and when done, drive five minutes out of the hills and get your fix of good music and good beer on the outdoor patio at Jupiter.

Free Date Ideas for the Broke and Swingin' in SF

June 20, 2013/in Date Ideas /by Guest Blogger

no_money_resized

Are you broke? No shame in admitting it. Broke is the new black. You may be wondering how a person stays active in the dating scene with little to no funds to call their own? Well, never fear! We at Coffee Meets Bagel have a couple free date ideas which let you have fun and still stay in the black, whatever that means.

party-alcohol-25

1. Free Events
More and more popular these days are social calendars and media services that target the budget-minded among us. Services like Funcheap SF, a company whose tagline is literally “Johnny’s guide to San Francisco for cheapskates”, finds and posts free and cheap events that kick serious butt, so you don’t have to. Not in San Francisco? Nobody’s perfect: check out Broke-ass Stuart’s Goddamn Website (yes, that’s the header) for not only events and local eateries, but bios on broke-ass individuals just like yourself doing great things in the community.

hiking_10-physical-or-outdoor-bonding-activities-for-couples

2. Go Outside
This should be a no brainer, but the outdoors are free! Plan a picnic, go on a bike ride, go camping! Not sure where to go? Check out services like Urban Hiker, a guide service that goes beyond the conventional outdoor guided trip and offers day trips that guide you around the internals of the city, too, and shows you secret spots you never would have found otherwise, even if you live right down the street. Along the same lines are free local tours, like the ones provided by the venerable Wild Wes Tours, which use local knowledge and native guides to show you the super secret spots and imbue you with crazy historical knowledge not to be found anywhere else.
Pillow forts for life!
3. Staycationism
The outdoors aren’t your thing? Plan a staycation! Plan a Netflix night with your sweetheart, pull up the two-buck-Chuck, and reap the rewards, you romantic genius. It’s remarkable how much fun you can have locally for minimal cash, and still have a new and awesome experience. Feel like getting away? Book a local hotel for the weekend and live like you’re staying in Monaco. Grab that oversized SLR, put on a beret, and get lost on Union Square pretending you only speak French. Go to the public city pool like you own the place, and try to get bottle service. With the right frame of mind, you can go anywhere and never leave your living room.

Three Summer Festivals You Can’t Miss

June 6, 2013/in Date Ideas /by Guest Blogger

At long last, Summer is here, and that means festival season. Whether you’re a seasoned vet or a first-time festie, get out your road maps, pack the Westfalia, and check out these three summer festivals you can’t miss to find romance, or to experience with that special someone.

1. EDC Las Vegas
June 18th-25th, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Nevada. Electronic/Ambient/Bass music.
This is the great grand-daddy of them all, a show that evolved from a one-day event of a couple thousand people in the Shrine Expo Hall in LA, to what is now a week-long event culminating in a three day music blowout that is the Mecca for electronic music, boasting a veritable who’s who of figureheads in the EDM scene. If that’s not enough, it is the largest North American electronic music festival and dance music event ever, last year packing in 300,000+ attendees. It’s also one of the most attractive, drawing what is arguably the most appealing-looking clientele ready to bust a move on the dance floor. Whether you’re looking for love or want to bring your special someone out for an unforgettable experience, EDC Las Vegas is something truly to behold.

2. Electric Forest
June 27th-30th, Rothbury Michigan. Electronic/Bluegrass/Alternative/Indy Pop.
Feel like cutting a rug in the woods to electronic beats, drink moonshine to some bluegrass, and find romance to some of the best contemporary music the world has to offer all at the same time? Now you can. One of the most eclectic and bizarre festivals on the list is Electric Forest, a three-day celebration of modern music and art set in the woods of Michigan. It has something for everyone, including interactive art pieces, carnival rides, and one of the funkiest lineups ever seen, bridging the festival gap of several different genres. This is an excellent opportunity to go have a backwoods experience, see some music and get your groove on with some of the legends of the festival music scene, like String Cheese Incident, and Pretty Lights. It is a great road trip destination, and a great place to find romance in America’s heartland.

Screen Shot 2013-06-06 at 1.44.09 PM

3.  Outside Lands
August 9th-11th, San Francisco California. Alternative/Rock/???
This festival is like a hand-picked selection of the top ten from your iTunes library, with headliners like Paul McCartney, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Willie Nelson. This show is one not to be missed, as many of the artists found on the list are ones you may never see again, in an intimate setting you will never forget (alumni include Stevie Wonder, Al Green, and Radiohead, who had the first ever night show in the park at the first ever Outside Lands in 2008.) It also acts as a showcase for some of the best food and wine from local artisans, featuring a food truck village and circus tent with tasting booths for local wineries. Plus, it’s full of San Franciscans, some of the most friendly and easy on the eyes people in the whole world. This is a great one to make new friends you’ll never forget, or take a date to something you both will thoroughly enjoy.
