5 Struggles Only Single People Will Understand
In many cases, being single is awesome. I love having the freedom to do exactly what I want to do, when I want to do it. I love meeting different guys and going out on dates. And hell, sometimes I just love sitting around my house in my sweatpants and eating mac and cheese right out of the pot. Don’t judge me.
But sometimes being single is a royal pain in the butt. Some things in life are just a little easier with someone else around. Here are 5 real-life struggles that only single people will understand.
1. Some Assembly May Be Required…
I love a good furniture building project. Nothing makes me happier than knowing I assembled my new bookcase all by myself. But then sometimes, while reading the instructions, you see the dreaded words no single person wants to see: “this product requires two people for assembly”. Ugh. Really?
2. Can You Zip Me Up?
Nothing challenges your flexibility (and patience!) more than attempting to reach the zipper at the back of your dress to zip yourself up. There are some dresses in my closet that I’ve basically given up on wearing. Why can’t my arms be longer?!
3. Leftovers. So Many Leftovers.
I’m a food blogger. I love to cook. But there are very few recipes that are scaled down for just one person. Craving lasagna? I have to make an entire pan of it. Want a freshly baked cookie? How about twelve freshly baked cookies? Whenever I do venture into the kitchen for a home-prepared meal, I have to be ready to eat the same thing for the rest of the week.
4. Will Someone Please Be My +1?
I’m all about flying solo at social events. But there’s something that sucks about strolling in to a wedding by yourself. Nothing like a bunch of slow, romantic songs at a wedding to make you feel super alone, right? It may be the reason why I live for the Electric Slide and the Cupid Shuffle.
5. Being Sick. Alone.
Before I moved back home to St. Louis a few months ago, I lived in Virginia, where I hardly knew anyone. One day, I woke up and I was sick. Like, head-in-the-toilet-all-day sick. Being completely alone when you’re feeling horrible is, well…horrible.
