CMB 2.0 Is Here! Thoughts from the team

What makes Coffee Meets Bagel different from other dating apps is our relentless focus on creating meaningful connections. That focus is why we’re excited to announce the launch of CMB 2.0 – our biggest app upgrade to date. Here’s what’s new:
Introducing Instant Messaging
You can now chat with connected Bagels right inside our app via a private chat room. No more dropped SMS!
Instant messaging will also help us use data even better to facilitate meaningful post connection interactions so they turn into real conversations, real meet ups, and real relationships.
For example, after analyzing over a million text messages exchanged by our members, we found that those who exchanged texts within the first 24 hours were 1.4x more likely to exchange their real phone numbers. They also sent 2.6x more texts than those who didn’t communicate within 24 hours. In response, we developed a system to encourage members to text on their first day of connection. With in-app chat we’ll be able to use even more insights to turn meaningful connections into meaningful conversations.
What won’t change is the 7 day expiration of private chat rooms. One of our members’ favorite features, expiration keeps the momentum going between pairs.
Bonus Bagels
CMB 2.0s second major feature is Bonus Bagels. We believe our one-match-a-day model works better because it forces pairs to consider each other more carefully and make more thoughtful decisions.  However, we noticed that certain members who know exactly who they want and tend to pass on multiple Bagels, making it harder for our algorithm to learn what they’re looking for. With bonus bagels, these members will receive a few extra bagels a day. While members can still only LIKE one bagel a day (we want connections to remain special!), our goal is to deliver a bagel you LIKE every day. P.S.: It’s time to stock up on those Coffee Beans because you will need them to unlock Bonus Bagels!
