The Merry Breakup Season
Can you predict a breakup? “Did you know that the most likely day of the year to be broken up with is the first Monday in December?” writes Lee Byron.
Some of you might remember David McCandless’ TED talk about data visualization. One of the things he and his colleagues figured out was that the weeks building up to Christmas consistently spell death for relationships. Basically, December is an advent calendar for getting dumped. In fact, divorce lawyers say January and February are their top months for acquiring new clients.
Relationship guru Dan Savage offers his thoughts:
“You’re a cad if you break up around Christmas. And then there’s New Year’s — and you can’t dump somebody right around New Year’s. After that, if you don’t jump on it, is Valentine’s Day. God forbid if their birthday should fall somewhere between November and February — then you’re really stuck….Thanksgiving is really when you have to pull the trigger if you’re not willing to tough it out through February.”
We at CMB want to put a positive spin on this and declare January to be the best month for dating ever. Back us up.
