St. Patrick's Day-southern style @ Southern Hospitality

March 13, 2012/0 Comments/in Date Ideas, NYC /by Dawoon Kang

If you’re too lazy to hit the St. Patrick’s Day parade and would rather feast on delicious southern yumminess here’s a place for you to go.

Also, we all know heavy drinking is bound to happen on St. Paddy’s Day so to prevent having a regretful morning on Sunday, we should ready our stomachs with some deliciousness.

Southern Hospitality has a special southern style menu for this coming Saturday.

Saturday, March 17, 2012 11am-6pm

Go out with your date, gather up a group of friends and have a finger licking feast. To make it better, top it all off with some irish car bombs, green jello shots and more festivities :)

Keith Haring Mural Unveiled

March 13, 2012/0 Comments/in Date Ideas, NYC /by Dawoon Kang

New York’s iconic artist Keith Haring is being commemorated with the unveiling of his mural, Once Upon a Time.

This mural is not in MoMA or any other museums in NY, but in one of the LGBT Center’s restrooms. Haring completed this mural only months before he died of AIDS and this area, yes the restroom now serves as a meeting place for the community.

This mural is open to the public. Going to the restroom is a typical romantic date place to go to, but it can be a change of scenery! Who said you always had to go to the museum to enjoy art?

Location: The LGBT Center (208 W 13th St, between Greenwich and Seventh Aves)

Phone: (212) 620-7310

Cost: Free

Date: Trough March 31, 2012

We don’t recommend going to a bar at 11:00pm for the first date, but maybe a day date out to Brooklyn can be forgiven!
Check out One Stop Beer Shop in Brooklyn to shop and to have some beer. They have more than 100 different beers and also have cocktails. The cocktail featured in the video above looks perfect for a spring day, especially since the weather in NYC is amazing these days.
If you’re a Manhattanite, even trekking down to Brooklyn can be a special date out with your Bagel. Do the whole package- walk the Brooklyn Bridge, chill out at One Stop Beer Shop and bring some back home! Best part of this place is the growlers. You can either get it for pick up or order for delivery but you can bring your favorite beer home in glass jugs, which keeps them carbonated for at least a month.
Done, I’m sold. If I can bring my Dogfish 60 home after a great date out in Brooklyn, I’ll do it.

Cindy Sherman Exhibit @ MoMA

March 5, 2012/0 Comments/in Date Ideas, NYC /by Dawoon Kang

CINDY SHERMAN EXHIBIT

Exhibit runs until June 11, 2012.
I love NYC for all the museums people can stop by to immerse themselves into cultural richness. One minute you’re running around town through the dirtiest streets and next thing you know, you’re walking into MoMA to be enlightened by all the great work at the exhibits. Or maybe you just went to go to the uber awesome MoMA store- either way MoMA is the place to go to for whatever reason.
I’ve only seen a couple of her work in the past and am excited myself to go to her exhibit at MoMA. She is not only the photographer, but she also puts herself into her work-literally. If you and your date both have interest in contemporary art and photography this should be your next stop.

Vintner Wine Market

location: 9th Ave between 46th and 47th Street <Hell’s Kitchen>
My favorite neighborhood hangout spot!
Very casual neighborhood store but you’ll be surprised with the deliciousness it offers! Gourmet sandwiches, salads, fondue and the best part is that they have craft beers on tap.
The owner is beyond friendly and remembers what you ordered in the past and what you actually enjoyed having. Great service, great food and great place to go with either your friends or even for a casual date.
My favorite: Turkey sandwich with brie, lettuce, tomato & honey mustard ($8.99)
