April is almost over…

April 22, 2012/in Date Ideas, NYC, Uncategorized /by CMB

Beautiful weather, mucho sunlight, and mucho things to do. Earth week is also coming to an end but there are still events going around town you should go to. Yet aren’t you all sad how the weekend is almost over and the weather turned around and the storm is nearing? boo…..but hey here are some things you can do to make yourself feel better during the week!

LAST HURRAH

Earth Weekend is almost over. BUT you still have a couple of hours to go to the Green Festival. I had many of my friends go to the Festival yesterday when it opened and now I’m excited to go myself before it all comes to an end this afternoon. “Eco-friendly” is all too familiar with us but along with start ups and interesting products at the Festival, it’s more than a convention to spread awareness but to celebrate how people are actually doing things to protect our Earth and the environment.

WHAT: GREEN FESTIVAL

WHERE: Jacob K. Javits Convention Center

WHEN: Today until 6pm

ELECTRO FUNK IN THE CITY

It’s getting warmer outside and gives us more reason to try out new music and concerts around the city. This Tuesday check out what the L.A. -based singer has to offer. The electro-funk music is great for those coming after work who wants to just chill out for a bit. Ramona Gonzales’s voice along with the electro-funk music in the back may be your weekday fix to get through the rest of the week.

WHAT: NITE JEWEL

TEMP HOME FOR DIOR HOMME

The Dior store is gone all you handsome well groomed men of NYC. But no worries it’s only temporary while it goes under reconstruction. The fun thing is a pop up is open now until this September. The pop up store has LED light sculptures for a slight change from the actual store so check out the store and don’t stop shopping at Dior Homme. Yum.

IF YOU TEACH ME HOW TO DO THIS…

then I’ll give you this! Trade School New York offers a brilliant way to learn new and interesting things in a more interactive way. Anyone can become a teacher and the students bring barter items the teacher requests for. It’s kinda like a market where you exchange what you know how to do for goods. You can learn some serious things like..learning about the economy? but I would go for the Fortune Telling for Fun class and tomorrow’s class on how to make a great online dating site profile ;) Go learn, mingle and enjoy new company!

OLDER THE BETTER-

It’s not an old book store, but more of a museum of all the magazines from the past. A new pop up shop in Soho is now open for all the curious culture and fashion lovers. One artful magazine archivist moved his $$-worth magazines to a new gallery space downtown. If you’re a fan of GQ, Esquire, Sports Illustrated, Details, Vogue, and yes, Playboy this is where you can go to see those well aged editions that you probably never seen before. The gallery space itself is worth strolling into, so take a break at this chic not-so-much of a bookstore while you’re in town.

Dine OUT on the streets?

Either it be for lunch because you don’t have time to sit down and have a proper meal, or because you’re new to the city and think having food on the streets is just weird, going to New York City’s Food Truck Rally is a fun place to go on a Sunday. Many of the best food trucks are coming to Prospect Park so people can sample their treats. I personally am going to go because I love their delicious food, fast service, and reasonable prices. However I always have the same food from the same truck. This is a chance for me and you to explore other options!

Food trucks scheduled to be at the rally TODAY are:

Big D’s Grub
Coolhaus
Cupcake Crew
Eddie’s Pizza Truck
Frites n Meats
Gorilla Cheese
Kelvin Natural Slush
Kimchi Taco Truck
Mexicue
Milk Truck
Pera Turkish Tacos
Red Hook Lobster Truck
Rickshaw Dumpling Truck
Valducci’s Original Pizza
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream
Wafels & Dinges
I’m not going to say which one, but I already see 3 of my FAVORITE trucks. So check it out today!

GET OUT OF YOUR APARTMENT!

Did everybody have a good time outdoors over the weekend? Having a picnic at Central Park, biking along the West Side, or even going to Battery Park to just get away from the city… these are the thing we do on the weekends. During the week you can still spend some time outside after work, but you’ll probably want a beer to get your mind off of that excel spreadsheet. I prefer going to meatpacking during the week rather than the weekend- it’s getting a tad too Jersey Shore-esque (just my opinion). Standard’s Biergarten is the go-to place for a glass of beer or even a little more than that.

WHERE: The Standard’s Biergarten (848 Washington Street between 13th St. and Little W 12th St.)

WHEN: Open from 4pm-12am Monday-Thursday, 4pm-1am on Friday, noon-1am on Saturday, noon-12am on Sunday

JAMES FRANCO…HE’S HERE!

You’ve seen him on the big screen and if you were lucky caught him in between classes near NYU. Franco is an actor, artist, and also an author with his second book ready for us. In 2010 he had his first solo exhibit Dangerous Book Four Boys, a mixed media event. His second book is titled the same and it brings the entire exhibit into one piece and lays it down in one book. You can purchase the book to attend the event to see and hear from Franco. Start your weekend with Franco— done.

WHEN: Friday April 13

WHERE: Strand Bookstore (828 Broadway between 12th and 13th Streets)

Zine? Huh?

When I first saw this I went “huh?” for a second too. According to the Anchor Archive Zine Library, “Zines are self-published magazines made outside of mainstream press and media, by all kinds of people about all kinds of things.” So if it’s a Zine Fest, I can imagine bunch of fun, creative, dynamic and colorful people gather. This is the first of an annual gathering of zine lovers and creators. It’s expecting more than 60 writers and artists to share their illustrations, writings, photography and any other work they want to show the world.

April 8, 2012/in Date Ideas, NYC /by CMB

HAPPY EASTER! What a wonderful weekend it was with gorgeous weather. Even though Easter weekend is coming to an end here are some things you can do this upcoming week.

PICTURE PERFECT

When the spring breeze gently blows, cherry blossom petals flutter and makes a magical scenery that makes you wonder if it’s lightly snowing on a spring day. One of the beauties of spring is definitely the amazing site cherry blossom trees create. Brooklyn Botanic Garden is the place to go to enjoy the spring breeze and walk through the shower of pink petals falling gently from the trees. Spring is here but will be gone soon, so don’t miss this year’s cherry blossom beauty.

WHERE: Brooklyn Botanic Garden (1000 Washington Ave.)

WHEN: Open until April 29 but sooner the better before the petals all fall off!

Who said beer and meat are only for men? A girl’s gotta have sausages and hamburgers too!

We love to go to DBGB with a group of friends but is chic place for couples to go on a date as well. All of it’s sausages are to die for so we recommend in getting at least 2 different types with your date. Also get an order of the frenchie hamburger, you can’t go wrong with it. DBGB also carries more than 20 types of beer on tap and over 50 bottled beer.

Daniel Boulud never disappoints foodies and DBGB is becoming New Yorkers favorite spot for some beer and artery clogging deliciousness.

Mesmerizing photos to video

March 28, 2012/in Date Ideas, NYC /by CMB

Here is another art exhibition New Yorkers should be excited about.

Oded Hirsch is having his first solo exhibition: nothing new, here in New York and he has the art community buzzing.

“In a series of videos and photographs completed over the past few years, Hirsch presents seemingly purposeless collective endeavors, performed in real time, where the focus is more on the process than on the outcome of the undertaking. Questioning the very notion of “togetherness” and utopia, Hirsch produces works that, while profound and political, are also intimate and moving,” Thierry Goldberg Gallery explains.
