Five Types of Girls’ Profile Pictures You Find on Mobile Dating Apps

September 25, 2013/in Funny & Videos /by Guest Blogger

In celebration of our new CMB app, we are rolling out a series of blog posts on mobile dating apps! With an endless stream of new people you could meet right in the palm of your hands, now your profile picture is more important than ever in creating a great first impression.

Today we are going to break down some common profile pictures that girls have on those apps and the snap judgement that comes along with them. We already looked at the guys’ profile pictures, now it’s the girls’ turn:

The Outdoorsy Pic

She’s kneeling in a field of flowers, standing under a redwood tree, gazing out over a cliff, or running along a beat up trail. Whatever the backdrop, her arms are always raised overhead in a way that says “I am carefree and one with nature!” But is she really? Only if a five star hotel on a beach counts as nature. Looking for a date idea? A pub run counts as running and you guys can get outdoor seating.

The Prom Pic

She’s wearing a purple floor length taffeta gown from the Macy’s juniors section and sporting an aggressively hairsprayed updo styled by Tina’s Hair Couture. It can only mean one thing- her high school prom photo from five years ago (or at least you hope it is… #jailbait). Has she sprouted a new limb in the time since? Did she get a botched nose job? What exactly is she hiding?

The Car Pic

There’s no better photo op for a selfie than the front seat of her car. And lucky for you, there’s a lot of information to be gleaned from how she keeps her car. Is her backseat clean? Does she have pink fuzzy dice or a cross hanging from her rearview mirror? Is she buckled up? Remember, safety first.

The Foodie Pic

She’s glancing up from her plate of beechwood smoked pork tenderloin encrusted with sheep’s milk blue cheese and roasted pearl onions. Or she’s demurely sipping from her artisanal latte with the Sistine Chapel ceiling depicted by its froth. She’s a classy gal…or just high maintenance. If you take her to Taco Bell, make sure to spring for the gourmet Cantina menu inspired by Chef Lorena Garcia.

The Sorority Pic

A group photo of her and eleven of her sorority sisters, complete with soror squats, hand signs, and the skinny arm. Outfits typically consist of togas, 80s neon garb, or lettered tank tops. Just watch out.. you WILL get texted about to all her friends, so make sure to give an impressive performance on your date.

So there you have it. Five types of profile pictures that girls have on mobile dating apps and the completely valid and extremely accurate judgements that come with them. The next time you’re using a dating app and see a picture outlined here, you’ll know exactly what to do.

8 times when Snapchat is better than texting

September 23, 2013/in Funny & Videos /by CMB

Hey Bagels! We’ve just launched our own iPhone app! We think it might just be the best dating app ever. We’re very excited about it so we decided to do a series of articles revolving around mobile apps and cell phones in the dating world. We thought it would be nice to look at the notorious and loveable snapchat.
Snapchat, for those unfamiliar with the application, is a picture messaging app. Instead of typing out what you have to say, you just take a picture and write a short caption. After the person views the message, it magically deletes itself off of their phone. This makes it perfect for just about any situation. Here’s eight specific examples

1. When you think you’re in love.

Texting when in love Snapping love
So you think you love someone. Being the bold and fearless person that you are, you decide to text him about your feelings. If you write them a small novel, he’ll have to fall in love! It seems like a solid plan right? Wrong. How are you going to be sexy in the written word? Who do you think you are? Hemingway? Send a snapchat instead! Give him your seductive eyes!

2. When you’re drunk.

Texting while drunkSnapping While Drunk
It’s late and you’re drunk. On a scale from 1 to drunk? You’re very drunk. You think to yourself: “Steve sure is a cool kid. I should text him so we can party together.” Don’t do it. You’re not fit to stand, let alone text. Just send a snap! The poor light, blurry lines, and general mess should give him a pretty good idea of whats going on.

3. When you’re drunk and in love.

Texting while drunk and in loveimage(1)
It’s late, you’re drunk, and you’re in love. It’s the Bermuda Triangle of poor decisions. Everything in your gut is telling you to text your feelings to the girl of your dreams. So what if she already has a boyfriend? Your brain tells you that there’s no way that you’ll regret this in the morning. It’s wrong. So wrong. Don’t text her, snapchat her! Why? Because now when you wake up without any memory of it, there will be no proof! It’s one of those pics or it didn’t happen situations.

4. When you want to talk about your outfit.

Texting about outfitsLooking good in a snapchat
Damn! You’re looking fly in your fancy pants. Look at you and your snazzy suit. You’ve just pulled together all the keystones of your wardrobe into one fantastical outfit. Your number one bestie would be so impressed, so text her right? No. How are you going to convey pure beauty with a string of text? Emojis don’t count. No, you should snap her! Send a pic of your goodlooking self. Now’s a great time to work on your best mirror selfie.

5. When you are near an adorable dog.

Texting about a dogSnapping an adorable dog
Dogs are the greatest animal to have ever existed on earth. Fact. So what should you do if you find yourself next to a particularly beautiful puppy? If you’re a good person, you should probably share its beauty with others. By text? No. The kibble loving wonder will get lost in anything under a thousand words. So send a snap and send it to everyone in your contacts!

6. When you have impeccable drawing abilities.

Texting about artSnapchat-3734
Deep down, you know that despite your well-paying job and financial security, you missed your calling when you choose a business degree over a fine arts. Right? You just have that intuition for making things look pretty. The edges of your meeting notes are covered in scribbles, each worthy of the title “Art.” You’ve just drawn your best one yet! How do you tell your friends about it? With a text? No. With a snap! Snap them a picture of your artwork, or just doodle with the app’s own coloring tool. If anything lasts for more than 10 seconds, it’s not really art.

7. When ‘OMG look at this guy.’

Texting about a guy on the bus
You’re on the train alone and in comes a guy from the seventies. He’s got a fantastic tie-dye afro and shoes that elevate him to the roof. “OMG look at this guy!” you think to yourself. James would appreciate a good look at this guy. Should you text him and just describe the well-dressed train-goer? No. You should snap him! Make sure that your flash is off and then sneak a pic of the other rider.

8. When you need to express yourself on a deeper level.

Texting grumpilyFurious Snapchat
Sometimes your emotions can become too much for you to handle. Maybe a coworker made fun of your Sean Connery impersonation. Maybe Starbucks gave you soy when you wanted a skinny. Sometimes life is hard and you need a way to vent. Use your friends! But don’t text about your problems! Snap them! You’re already making an angry face, so use it!
Agree? Disagree? Have a great situation for Snapchatting? Let us know! If you are ever stuck between sending a text and snapchat, ask yourself something: Would the other person want to see a picture of me right now? The answer: Of course they would. You’re fabulous. Send that snap.

Your Profile Picture is Worth a Thousand Words…What Are They?

July 20, 2013/in Funny & Videos /by Guest Blogger

In honor of our new CMB mobile app, we are doing a series of posts focused on mobile phones and the best dating apps. Today, we’re breaking down the types of profile pictures of guys you find on a mobile dating app. Read on!

Everyone knows first impressions are important. They are even more so with the increasing popularity of mobile dating apps and decreasing attention spans. Your profile picture can find you your soulmate or leave you in the dust of missed connections and abandoned Bagels. Dating coaches give endless advice on how to choose the perfect photo to upload. Find the most flattering lighting, look directly at the camera, don’t look directly at the camera, smile! With all the advice out there, it’s hard to keep track. No matter which picture you choose to upload, remember that a picture is a worth a thousand words. Let’s take a look at what those words are.

Holding puppy/baby/cute object

He knows puppies and babies are women magnets and is using that fact to his advantage. Even so, who can resist a man being smothered by puppy kisses?

On stage at a tech conference delivering a keynote

He’s founding his own startup or funding other people’s. You know that he’s techy, nerdy, and has serious net worth. What’s not to love?

Professional glamour shot

Hope that he did this in an ironic way to be funny. Complete with props and poses that attempt to be sexy and mysterious…he’s either a goofball or way too into himself.

Group photo of his office softball team

You know he’s social, has at least that many friends, and is fit enough to lift a bat. Just make sure you’re looking at the right guy!

Shirtless selfie

The only time a shirtless profile picture is acceptable is if he is at the beach/pool/body of water (the toilet doesn’t count). Pass!

So there you have it. Five types of guys you meet through dating apps, solely based on their profile pictures. Which one are you?

Your date is underdressed. #oopsies

Eight Awkward Online Dating Moments And How to Get Out Of Them

July 12, 2013/in Funny & Videos /by CMB

We’ve all been there… Here’s a few of the best online dating awkward moments:

1. The Neighbor Make-Out Sesh

Nextdoor Make-out?
You’re on a lunch date and things are going smoothly. Suddenly the couple next to you starts making out passionately. You’re suddenly filled with awkwardness and doubt. Should you be making out too? Is this normal in a daytime cafe? Your date has noticed too and now she’s deep in thought about it as well. You’ve just met…you can’t be thinking about making out yet!
OR MAYBE YOU CAN! The best solution? Outshine your neighbors with your own mid-day make-out.

2. The “I thought this was just going to be a hug” goodbye

OH GOD HE'S GOING FOR A KISS

You’ve had a very nice first date. He was an absolute gentleman and damn cute as well. On saying goodbye, you lean in for a ‘see you later’ hug, only to see him closing his eyes and puckering his lips! He’s going for a kiss! What do you do in a situation like this? Should you reciprocate or dodge? Think quickly, you only have a split second!

Our answer? Skip first base! Go for the full home-run.

3. The I-think-I-kinda-know-you hello.

The "I already know you" hello

You’ve spent two hours picking out your outfit for the night. You have thought out every possible conversation and you are sure that you are ready to rock this date. Suddenly the unthinkable happens. When you meet your date, you realize that he was that guy in your finance class. You know, the one who you saw everywhere but never really talked to. THAT ONE GUY. You just went from confident to completely uncomfortable.

Best Choice? Get to REALLY know them. *wink*

4. The “Who are you again?”

The "Who are you?"

You’re halfway through a great date. The conversation has been phenomenal; she shares all the same interests as you and even had a dog of the same breed as yours. It could not be a better match. You open your mouth to say something, but your brain fails you! What’s her name!? You don’t know! What do you do?

We know what we would do. Use nicknames like Honey-Bear, Sugar-Booger, and Frank.

5. The surprise third-wheel.

The surprise third wheel

You’re on a first date at the park and suddenly an old friend comes up to you. You haven’t seen her in years! She joins right in the conversation and asks how you know your date. How do you know him? Do you say it’s a date? Will that be uncomfortable? If you say he’s just a friend, is that friendzoning? How do you make it not awkward while still keeping the date in play?

Ask her to join in! #threeway #AWWWWYEEEAH

6. The dress code violation.

The Dress code violator

You’re meeting up with your date for a classy wine-and-candlelight dinner. You’ve put time into your look and you look damn fine. You show up at your arranged meeting place only to find your date completely under dressed. We’re not talking like he wore a sweater instead of a blazer, but like, he wore a brotank to a five-star. Who is this guy? Do you still go to dinner?

Our style tips? You guys will still match if you’re both undressed *wink*

7. The declined credit card.

The declined credit card
You’ve finished your meals and are ready to leave for the theater when suddenly the waiter comes back to the table and informs you that your credit card was just declined. It’s the only card in your wallet and you didn’t bring cash. Should you ask your date to pay for you? Can you really pay off your bill by cleaning dishes? Will the waiter still want a tip?
If you never intend to pay, you can never be too poor! Just dine ‘n dash at every meal!

8. The lack of conversation.

The 'nothing to talk about' date
It’s a nice day out. Your food has been delicious. Your date is cute. Even your hair looks good today. Everything is great, but you can’t think of a single thing to say to your date. Worst part? He has nothing to say either. You both just sit there, uncomfortably sipping your orange mocha frappuccinos and avoiding eye contact. You’ve been racking your brains but no good question has come up. Should you just say the first thing you can think of? Should you just wait for him to say something? Maybe you should just get up and leave? Is there anything you can do?
If you can’t think of anything to say to your date, then talk to someone else. Our personal favorite? SIRI. “Siri, why is my date looking at me awkwardly?”

5 Reasons Why Nerds are the New Cool

May 28, 2013/in Funny & Videos /by Guest Blogger

It is not a secret that the existing social order has been thrown on its head. While popular celebrities like Tom Cruise, Eminem and Miley Cyrus insist that they were bullied in high school, nerds make billions starting social networks that directly influence popularity.  Nerds are no longer associated with pocket protectors and slapstick pranks.  They have reached a whole new level of stardom for being…cool.  Here are five reasons why we think that nerds are the new cool.
1. Nerds are trendsetters
We have all seen those thick-framed Warby Parker glasses go from geek-creep to Geek Chic.  Now even people who don’t need frames wear them just to fit in.  Nerds have gone from the followers to the Tweeters of fashion.
Nerd is the New CoolNerd is the New Cool
2. Nerds party harder than you
This is one area where we thought we had them beat.  Then, much to our chagrin we have witnessed the rise of a new breed of brogrammers who “sling code” and party like frat boys.  Now virtually every start-up gig advertises happy hours and office kegs.  Beer pong anyone?
Nerd is the New CoolNerd is the New Cool
3. Nerds make $$$ and know how to save
Part of being smart is knowing how to play the system.  Companies like Apple have figured out how to make billions and pay next to nothing in taxes.  Apple CEO Tim Cook recently detailed, in his testimony to the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, how he did this all legally — WOW score one for the nerds!  Who’s the loser now America?

Nerd is the New CoolNerd is the New Cool
4. Nerds are smart
I know, I know, this is the obvious one!  Nerds have always been smart, but smart has not always been cool.  Now that nerds create the apps we play with and shape our digital habits, intelligence has officially made it into the cool zone.
Nerd is the New Cool
5. Nerds rule the world
Have you seen Google Glass?
Nerd is the New Cool
Or the Facebook Friendship Map?
Nerd is the New Cool
How about the Big Bang Theory?
Nerd is the New Cool
I rest my case.

Sunday Spotlight: Ellie Lee, an Aspiring Actress & Pro-Attention Seeker

May 19, 2013/in Date Ideas, Funny & Videos, NYC /by CMB

Ellie Lee is not messing around. Yes, Ellie is her full first name– not a kitschy shortening of Elizabeth, or anything else starting with “E”, for that matter. She hates carrots. She cannot live without eyeliner. She is the erudite mistress of the acting industry, and her Youtube channel covers such down-to-the-minute topics as twerking, being “BROKE AS HELL”, white boys, and most recently, Coffee Meets Bagel (featured above).
What makes her so interesting, so inspiring? An East Coast native based in NYC, this firecracker boasts a formidable Youtube channel with creative content that yields thousands of views a month. She also has interviewed some of the cream of the crop in Hollywood including Ryan Reynolds, Vanessa Hudgens, Blake Lively, Zach Galifinakis, and Neil Patrick Harris, to name a few.
Check out her youtube channel here, her Twitter @yo_ell, and of course, her hilarious video on Coffee Meets Bagel above!
