5 Ways I Changed the Way I Message Women (and scored multiple dates!)

April 28, 2014/in For Him /by Guest Blogger

I guess one could say that the last couple of weeks of mine have been hectic when it comes to my dating life but it was worth it. In the world of online dating, messaging is what bridges the gap between seeing someone’s profile and going out on a date with them. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, many of us men don’t always end up achieving the success we would like to when messaging women. To understand how to better our chances, and also to get some dates, I messaged thirty women on an online dating site using the following five approaches: aggressive, passive, cheesy, inquisitive, and informal. For example, I messaged six women with an aggressive approach, six woman with a passive approach, and so on. This post includes the five key ways I changed the way I message women after analyzing my interactions, as well as, examples of each approach that was used.

1. The beginning of the conversation is the time to find common ground in order to establish a connection

dating advice for men

In the beginning, be funny, ask a question, and pay attention to the details. Let the conversation flow naturally from the initial message but keep in mind that the point of the interaction is for it to lead to a date.

2. Demonstrate that you took the time to read her profile by mentioning an interest of hers

dating advice for men

Within the first three to four messages mention something that has to do with the details within their profile that you actually have an interest in. In addition, doing this when it is time to ask her out on a date will absolutely help your chances.

3. If she doesn’t respond to your first message within 48 hours then send an engaging question that she can’t help but answer
dating advice for men
Sending one follow up message is a good idea because it shows that you are seriously interested in her but do your best to not come off pushy or aggressive.

4. Suggest a date immediately after receiving a positive response from her

dating advice for men

The most success I experienced when suggesting a date was seen immediately after receiving a positive response from her. If you made her ‘lol’ and the conversation has exceeded 4 exchanges then go ahead and ask! Definitely do not let the conversation pass around 7 messaging exchanges before mentioning the date. After 7 exchanges the average conversation tends to lose its muster.

5. End the conversation shortly after making plans for a date

dating advice for men

Shortly after you ask her out on a date is an ideal time to end the conversation because momentum plays a big role during the early stages of dating. By doing this you eliminate the opportunity for the conversation to lose its appeal and close out the conversation on a high note.

Examples and Main Takeaways of Each Approach Used

1. Cheesy

dating advice for men

Main Takeaway: Being cheesy experienced zero success. No cheese please.

2. Aggressive

 dating advice for men

Main Takeaway: Being aggressive the whole time while messaging someone will end up turning most people away. Instead be aggressive only when it is appropriate. For example, when asking to go on a date.

3. Passive

dating advice for men

Main Takeaway: This did receive some responses but give the person you message something to work with.

4. Informal

dating advice for men

Main Takeaway: Being informal experienced zero success.

5. Inquisitive

dating advice for men

Main Takeaway: Use questions to start the conversation and to keep it going but don’t be excessive, got it? Are you sure? How about now?

The Only Dating Timeline You Will Ever Need: Dating Advice for Men

February 25, 2014/in For Him /by Guest Blogger

I get asked questions a lot by my guy friends – “I don’t know if it’s ok to take her to this party or introduce her as my girlfriend” CMB gents, let me give you some insight as to what most girls are expecting to happen- and when! If you follow this timeline, not only will you be a perfect gentleman, but girls will ADORE YOU, I swear.

1 week: I’m so glad we hit it off at our first date. It’s still the early stages so let’s keep things casual. How about we plan a brunch date, followed by a walk in the park. We can hold hands and smooch, but let’s keep some sense of mystery going. I would obviously appreciate flowers but there’s no need for big gifts or extravagant dates. Chivalry is not dead! I’d love to see how much of a gentleman you can really be. Those sweet gestures are greatly appreciated and won’t go unnoticed.

1 month: By this point we’re definitely more comfortable around each other. I would love to be seeing you a few times a week and go on more adventurous dates like hiking or something on the water. Remember that I mentioned that I like seafood and pasta? If you whip some shrimp linguine and pair it with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio, I’ll be really impressed and could probably find a way to show my gratitude.  ;)

3 months: Things are getting a bit more serious and I’d hope we can be exclusive. Let’s talk about it, like adults, instead of just assuming things. No need to get me a set of keys to your place, but I’d like to leave a toothbrush and mascara there. I want to be involved in your life: invite me to your cousin’s birthday party or happy hour with your buddies.

6+ months: Wow – we’ve made it this far! I love you and I’m gonna tell you. And I want you to tell me, too. I can’t wait to be your plus one at family events. I would also love to take a weekend getaway together.  Maybe we can host a holiday party together? Lets start thinking and talking about our future. And of course I want to make it Facebook official! (That’s the most important part of being with someone, isn’t it?)

If you want to help your girlfriend navigate the dating timeline, share the “Dating Advice for Women” post with her!

July 29, 2013/in For Him /by Guest Blogger

The following article is a guest post, courtesy of Bronson Farr

Hey CMB Men!
Fall is right around the corner, and yes, it means that summer is coming to an end. But instead of moping about why not gear up for the coming months with a new wardrobe? We have picked out 3 men’s clothing websites just in time for fall. (If you’re  going on a date soon and you need some fresh threads, these are some great places to look.)
Street Wear: JackThreads
Just looking for your typical t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers? JackThreads is definitely the site to check out. Not only do they have name brands like The Hundreds, KR3W, and, on occassion, Member’s Only, all of their items are sold at a discounted price! But you better hurry because all of their deals last for only a few days.

Although the sales on JackThreads are great, they only last for a couple of days.

Feeling Snazzy? Bonobos
If you’re more of a collared-shirt-and-courdoy type of guy head over to Bonobos where you can find the some snazzy apparel. So if you want to look classy while keeping casual, Bonobos is your best bet.

Classiness at its finest: Trunk Club
Well hello there dear sirs! Trunk Club is one of the classiest men’s clothing websites out there. Think of it as having your own personal stylist sending you clothes that will best suit you (pun intended). Once you receive your trunk full of clothes you picked out you get a 10 day trial period to try them on. When you finished trying them on you send back the clothes you don’t want and pay for the rest.

At Trunk Club you even get a hand written letter from your personal stylist!

dating tips from the tech sector

eChivalry: Dating Tips from the Tech Sector

May 24, 2013/in For Him /by Guest Blogger

iphone-engagement2

Got a hot date coming up you want to impress? Scrambling for a last minute venue for dinner and drinks? Gentlemen, this is your chance to prove that chivalry isn’t dead; quite the contrary. There’s an app for it. Want to impress your date and learn some lifehacks to streamline your day-to-day? Here are some dating tips from the tech sector that might come in handy the next time you’re wooing the ladies.

1. Get Plugged In
If you live in a city, you’ve probably noticed how increasingly smartphone-centric everything is getting. Knowing local apps and social media makes you more involved in your local community, and hip—knowledge is power. Lifestyle apps like Sōsh or Thrillist that hand pick events and deals out of your personal quiver of interests humbly ask that you make a profile or login through Facebook to better match you with your local friends who might also have good ideas on the community beat.
Want something a little more instant-gratification oriented? Apps like Now pull the location tags from Instagram to let you know what venues and locations are trending in your area, giving you down-to-the-second updates on what’s going on. Clients like Goldstar help you stay on top of this, offering discounts and early RSVP options for people who are in the know, or just looking for new music and art and willing to give it a try.

2. Know your Surroundings
This may sound like a strange one, but knowing where you are and how to get around is becoming easier (and more important than ever). Being on time is something made science by apps like Embark that keep you up-to-date on public transit, or Uber, which lets you seamlessly call different levels of personal transport (from taxi, to towncar, to SUV) to your exact location within five minutes. This is crucial when there’s nary a cab in sight and all the buses have absconded with your last hope of a ride home. For the more outgoing among us, there’s Sidecar, which uses their mobile interface to let you hitch a ride with registered users in your area.
3. Know When to Unplug
Knowing when to put your phone down is still crucial in establishing that human connection. So often these days, people find themselves ignoring their physical surroundings and the people therein; take a moment, put your phone on silent, hide it in the depths of your backpack, and ignore the terrible itch to see who’s sending you drunk pictures on Snapchat for ten minutes to have a face to face conversation. These tips will set you up for an unforgettable experience and bring out the cultured ladykiller within, so when clutch time comes, stay focused on your date, not these apps. Unplug, be present, and you might even see date number two looming on the horizon.

We spoke with two professional florists: Holly Heider, owner of Chapple Flowers, whose designs have been published in Martha Stewart, Washingtonian, and InTouch; Natalie Bowen, owner of Natalie Bowen Designs and very popular designer for the San Francisco Bay Area.
They gave us the inside scoop on what flowers both men and women really love and why.image

Holly loves the Cabbage rose! “They’re twice the size of a regular rose and considerably more fragrant.”
These flowers are beautiful, simpler than a regular rose, but still has a great meaning – all in all, perfect for your first date. Holly says that giving a single rose is considered an expression of gratitude & appreciation!

Ranunculus:
Natalie’s expert recommendation for a first or second date is the beautiful flower Rannunculus.

“Ranunculus are beautiful and not risky; most people will love them,” says Natalie. They are known to represent radiant charm.
